Nature Explore Classroom at
Missouri Botanical Garden

The Nature Explore Classroom
at Missouri Botanical Gardens continues to be an exciting place for all visitors.

Throughout the year, the classroom is highlighted as an interactive and natural space. From building with natural materials to creative play, there is always something going on.

During the season, SAGE teenage volunteers (Students As Garden Educators) earned service hours by working in the Children's Garden doing interpretive activities. These volunteers helped to draw visitors but also to educated people to think of natural materials in a new way. They helped make tree cookie necklaces, pinecone birdfeeders and potted plants and bulbs.

This year, upgrades were made to the interpretive sign that encourages all children to make mud pies. A giant tree cookie was added to the climbing area. This great conversation piece was made from a 90 year old White Oak tree that had died from oak blight in another area of the Garden grounds. In the raised beds and planter boxes, seasonal plants invite visitors can see, touch and taste. The plants are changed out three times a year and children are welcome to help plant. The fall display contained mums, kale, rosemary and sage.

Promotion of activities and events can be found on the website, in press releases and by encouraging all visitors that come to the Children's Garden to check out the Nature Explore Classroom.
