Limited Edition Guatemalan

"Grown at high altitude under the rain forest canopy"

Certified Shade-Grown, Organic, and Fair Trade

This delicious Limited Edition Guatemalan Arbor Day Specialty Coffee uses the very best beans our coffee experts could find in Guatemala. The beans are grown on small family farms under the canopy of the rain forest. For the second straight year the best coffee found in Guatemala was at the Guaya'b Co-op in Jacatenango, Huehuetengango about 374 kilometers from Guatemala City. With your support last year, the growers of Guaya'b Co-op maintained their shade canopy to produce better coffee beans.

Formally established in 1998, Guaya'b began selling to the Fair Trade market in 2000. With the Fair Trade price, Guaya'b farmers have increased their own earnings and reinvested a portion of their profits in the community. As a result, the region’s economy is more stable and the rate of migration has decreased.

The Fair Trade price has enabled the cooperative to support:

  • A credit program that provides members with low interest loans
  • A plan to provide medical insurance to members and their families
  • An organic compost program
  • Cupping workshops that teach members about coffee quality
  • Technical assistance in organic production techniques
  • An income diversification project whereby members grow peanuts, fruit, and peppers for sale in local markets
"Since we began selling at the Fair Trade price we have seen a big improvement in our quality of life. Co-op members can now afford to buy clothes and medicine for their families, and they benefit from the new programs the co-op has implemented with revenue from Fair Trade sales."

Antonio Carmelo Camposeco,
GUAYA'B President
